"ISO 18001" is confirmed!

OHSAS 18001 2021年11月04日

Earlier this year, we shared rumors that OHSAS 18001 might eventually be incorporated into ISO. Although it will not be easily renamed "ISO 18001" (which has been adopted), we look forward to seeing unnamed standards in 2016.

The team responsible for this standard is the ISO PC 283 project committee. Starting this year, the first meeting will be held here in the UK in October by the British Standards Institute.

As we have seen in the revision of ISO's popular management standards, some drafts will be published, and stakeholders will have the opportunity to comment on the direction of health and safety management standards before publication.

Although OHSAS 18001 is currently used in various countries / regions, with the support of ISO, the British born standard will eventually become an international standard. Similarly, the ANSI Z10 standard used in the United States will also be replaced.

As before, the new standard will follow ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, using a common advanced structure called "annex SL". This is good news for current OHSAS 18001 users, because it means that integration with the above ISO standards will be easier.

However, although the top structure has been determined, the requirements are not clear. Like the revision of ISO 9001, "ISO 18001" is not only suitable for today's users, but also for the next few years, which is of course important.
